Recipe of the Week

Currently I am in the progress of typing up all of my moms' reciepes that I have. I am going to try to make a cookbook out of them but for now I will post one of them or others that I have from recipe books once a week. So this week is one of my favorites: chocolate chip cookies. I love making these not only because they were a favorite of everyone in the family but because I have been told that I am just like my mom when I make them and how they taste.

1 1/4 cup brown sugar
2 Tbs. milk
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
1 cup semi sweet choc. chips
3/4 cup butter flavored crisco
1 Tbs. vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups of flour
3//4 tsp. baking soda
1 cup pecan pieces (optional)

Heat oven to 375. Combine brown sugar, Crisco, milk, and vanilla. Beat and then add egg to mixture. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix until just blended. Stir in chocolate chips and pecans. Place on cookie sheet and bake 8-10 min for chewy cookies or 11-13 for crispy cookies. Cool on baking sheet then place on rack.

I'm not sure how old this picture is but I'm going to go with 2001. This is just a guess but I really love this picture. I'm pretty sure that this was one of our last family pictures taken but everyone would know better than I would. What I would really love is that everyone please share one of your favorite memories of my mom, I have my own but I would like to know more.

Current Events

Ok, I'm not sure how good I'm going to be at this but I think it will be cool. Like I said most of what is going to be on here is stories, pictures, and personal writings that I have done. I'm not even sure I'll get a lot of followers but it would be awesome if I did. Now where do I start... I've definately been busy the past couple of months with getting a new job, starting a new semester, traveling to and from Idaho. I have loved every minute of it though from getting new experiences on my own to new experiences with my family. I love my family very much and I hate that we are all so far away from each other. Even though we are so far away from each other I love that technology keeps us up to date on each others comings and goings.
Starting my first real job has been a great experience for me. I learn something new everyday and it keeps me on my toes thats for sure. I may not like the hours I get or the customers who make things difficult but honestly what teenage girl gets to say "I work with shoes all day" :) What is going to make work a lot easier is when we move to our new house in West Jordan. I will literally be five minutes away from work and be so much closer will save me a lot of time and money. Along with work I am also going to school, my second year at the community college. Technically this should be my last year but I would not like to cram six classes into my last semester so I'm hoping to transfer to a universtiy in the spring of 2012 and getting a bachelors in English. For now though, my classes are decent: Sociology, Human Biology, Intro to Education, and Computer Essentials. I'm thinking that a lot of my posts will be about Sociology (how much I love it), Human Biology (how much I hate it), and Intro to Education (volunteer hours).
While all of this keeps me busy, I still manage to write to all of my favorite missionaries out in the field, read numerous books, and keep things going in the right direction. Getting my letters every week keeps me happy, with knowing that I am helping them and they are helping me. Even though I am sometimes behind there is not a doubt in my mind that this is the right thing to do. I may get behind on this as well but I also know it is the right thing to do.
